Serie A legend puts name forward for Middlesbrough job

Last week saw the departure of manager Tony Pulis after spending three years with Middlesbrough which led the vacant spot being linked to names such as Jonathan Woodgate and Danny Cowley.

However, in recent reports, a new name has surfaced in the form of Argentian Serie A legend Gabriel Batistuta.

OneBoro reported that Batistuta is set on kickstarting his managerial career having completed his coaching badges in the last year and has put his name forward for review.

A source close to the former Serie A winner said: “Gabi has a fantastic record both as a world-leading player and technical director.”

“He has discussed the potential of a move to England as his first managerial appointment and he is very keen to work with the right club next season.”

“The future for Gabi is huge having completed his coaching badges last year and any club in England would be privileged to have him as their manager.”

Prior to joining AS Roma where he won the Serie A title during the 2000/01 season, Batistuta plied his trade Fiorentina for approximately 9 years.

He was to eventually move to Inter Milan on a loan deal before finalising his football career with Qatari side Al-Arabi where he hung up his boots in 2005.

Since then, Batistuta has held roles as a technical director and advisor in Argentina.
