Mahachi says Zim won't focus on Mo Salah

Zimbabwean forward Kudakwashe Mahachi has looked ahead to the AFCON 2019 final, including comments of Mohamed Salah and Uganda.

The Orlando Pirates attacker confirmed being fully aware  that The Warriors are the Group A side with little to no chance of succeeding to the last 16.

“It’s our second time (in a row) qualifying to the AFCON finals and that means we have a strong and competitive team,” Mahachi told Zimbabwean media via King Fut.

“Though we are going into the AFCON finals as underdogs, we will fight like Warriors to go through to the knockout stages. We have many calling us underdogs.

“Even the Ugandan coach has written us off. He said we are going to be the whipping boys of the group, but such words won’t deter us from fighting for our country.

“We will show them that we are competitive as they are.

The 25-year-old attacker, who had a not-so-joyous season with Pirates (three goals in 19 appearances), did not end the chat without touching on Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.

“Mo Salah is a good and quality player, who is expected to do well in the finals, but as we face them, we won’t focus on an individual. Football is a game of teamwork and I guarantee that we will match every player there.

The Warriors kick off AFCON against Egypt on Friday evening, 21 June. Two more group games will follow against DR Congo and Uganda.
