United went down courtesy of second-half goals from Bernardo Silva and substitute Leroy Sane as City reclaimed top spot from Liverpool and now enjoy a one-point lead over them. The defeat now means United have lost seven of their last nine games and suffer another blow in their Champions League ambitions for next season.

In an interview with Sky Sports after the derby defeat, Rashford gave an assessment of their performance in the game, "It was clear the difference between the two teams. We didn’t play like Manchester United. It’s not felt like Manchester United, we’ve not played like Manchester United – that’s not right.

"Bare minimum should be to give your all and work hard for the badge and the fans and just for the club. It’s important to do it for yourself it's been a tough road to get to where we are. We were never expected to be in this position but we got there and To be not putting in the same performances we were doing at the start of January is disappointing for the players."
