Monchi left his position at Roma earlier in the month and was expected to join the Gunners. However, as reported by Mirror Football, Monchi is heading back to Sevilla with the appointment as a director of football set to be confirmed next week. The 50-year-old was said to have been offered a deal at the Emirates which could see him reunited with Unai Emery.
The duo have a good relationship after a profitable spell working together at Sevilla, in which the Gunners boss led the Spanish side to three successive Europa League crowns. Monchi lasted less than two years at Roma and his transfer dealings were mixed at best but his record at Sevilla was impressive.
“We believe Monchi is the best choice and we’ve started negotiations with him. His receptiveness has been extraordinary. We have to agree on future plans, but both parties are optimistic," said Sevilla president Jose Castro on Friday.
Sevilla in talks with Monchi to bring him back to the club. Negotiations just started, and they're looking to reach an agreement in the coming days. That is straight from their club president, José Castro.
