CAF president Ahmad to miss Fifa Council meetings after being denied US visa

14 Mar 2019, 16:25

Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Ahmad will miss this week’s FIFA Council meetings in Miami after being denied a US visa.

According to the BBC, the 59-year-old Malagasy football administrator is a vice-president of world football’s governing body by virtue of his position with Caf.

"I confirm the information," Caf spokesperson Nathalie Rabe said.

"I am sorry (but) I don't have more information (about the decision to deny his visa)."

"I just know that the President will be in Cairo (on Thursday)."

Ahmad, who was elected Caf president in March 2017, has faced recent criticism after being accused of violating the statutes of African football’s governing body.

The FIFA council meeting will run from Thursday to Friday with discussing on the expansion of the 2022 World Cup from 32 to 48 teams among the agenda.
