Nigeria’s Uzoho misses game for health certificate complaint

Nigeria’s Uzoho misses game for health certificate complaint

11 Feb 2019, 07:00

Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho missed his club Anorthosis Famagusta's match against Nea Salamis last weekend due to Cyrprus Sports Organisation’s health certificate inspection.

The 20-year-old made his Famagusta debut after joining on 31 January in a win over Apollon Limassol, only for Limassol to later “file a protest citing irregularities in the mandatory health certificate handed to the Nigerian by KOA,” said the BBC Sport.

“Apollon have questioned the "validity of the health card", questioning how Famagusta were able to acquire the document in time.

“Apollon claim in their statement that Uzoho arrived in Cyprus at 1605 on Friday 1 February and that the KOA department had already shut at 14.30 that same day,” BBC Sport wrote.

Uzoho’s club explained their decision to omit the Nigerian in last Saturday’s squad.

"Due to the climate of recent days and to avoid further disruption and rumours, Francis Uzoho will not be involved in Saturday's clash with Nea Salamis."
