Wenger set to hijack Liverpool and Bayern Munich target

Arsene Wenger plans to lure Schalke man Max Meyer to the Premier League to play alongside countryman Mesut Ozil, but faces competition for his signature from the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Milan, who are also interested.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and after Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud decided to leave Arsenal in January, Wenger is looking to add more attacking options to his squad. Despite Meyer’s young age, he’s already boasts plenty of experience having represented Germany 58 times in total at youth level – including six times at the 2016 Olympics  before making his senior debut in 2014. And the chances of Wenger adding the German talent to his squad increased in January after Schalke CEO Christian Heidel refused to rule out his departure.

“Max will be deciding shortly if he wants to stay at Schalke past the summer. 'Max is very happy here, Schalke is his home, we will try to make it him as comfortable financially as possible,” Heidel said.

Bundesliga ace has started 24 times for Schalke this season, scoring one goal in the process.
