Madrid handed major transfer boost

Real Madrid has reportedly made significant strides in their attempt to land Inter Milan striker Mauro ICardi.

English news outlet The Mirror and Spanish radio programme El Chiringuito de Jugones have jointly claimed that the Argentine is set to undergo a medical before the end of the year ahead of a £81m switch (£70.5m transfer fee plus around £10.5m in bonuses) to the Bernabeu in the upcoming transfer window.

Icardi has emerged as one of the most in-demand strikers this season after scoring an impressive 16 league goals and assisting another in 15 appearances for the Nerazzurri - a development that has seen the Italian powerhouse establish themselves firmly atop the current league standings.

Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane is said to be keen on acquiring the 24-year-old to further bolster his lackluster front-line, which has declined due to the struggles of Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale, subsequently forcing FIFA Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo to bear much of the offensive load this season.
