Sserunkuma, Onyango join Olunga in Caf Player of the year nominees' list

Reigning African player of the year, Denis Onyango, has been nominated to defend his title as Caf released a 60-man shortlist for the respective overall and African-based player of the year.

Onyango, just like last year, has been listed for both the foreign and continental-based player of the year.

He faces stiff competition from Afcon 2017 finalist and World cup 2018- bound, Essam El Hadary, Liverpool stars Mohammed Salah (Egypt) and Sadio Mane (Senegal), and Chelsea and Super Eagles winger Victor Moses. 

Africa-based

Former Kampala Capital City Authority FC striker, Geoffrey Sserunkuma has made it in the 30-man list for the pkayers based in Africa.

Sserunkuma was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2016-17 Uganda premier League season.

He scored a total of 32 goals; twenty in the League, seven in the Uganda cup, four in the Caf Champions league and a two in the CAF confederations cup. 

CECAFA

Harambe Stars striker Michael Olunga and Mbwana Samatta (Tanzania) have also been nominated in the overall category.

The Head Coaches/Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF, members of the CAF Technical and Development Committee and a panel of Media Experts will participate in the voting process.

The Awards Gala will be held on Thursday, 4 January 2018 in Accra, Ghana.
