Federations of Uganda Football Associations, FUFA, has revealed that only nine football intermediaries, commonly referred to as agents, are officially registered.

The federation added reknowned agent-cum-sports journalist, Fred Ronald Niwagira Mwine, on Wednesday after fulfilling the minimum requirements.

- This year alone, four people have duly registered and are licenced to conduct business on behalf of their respective clients. The latest successful applicant is Fred Ronald Niwagira Mwine, with license number UGA-1707013, a Fufa statement read.

Other registered intermediaries include; Gibby Kalule, Musa 'Atagenda' Sebulime, Geofrey Solo Kayemba, Isaac Mwesigwa, Mike Mutyaba, Tushar Ruparelia, Daniel Kisseka Ntale and Lebanese national Chadi Ezzeddine.

Who is an intermediary?

According to Fifa, an intermediary is a natural or legal person who, for a fee or free of charge, represents players and/or clubs in negotiations with a view to concluding an employment contract or represents clubs in negotiations with a view to concluding a transfer agreement.

How does one become an intermediary in Uganda?

Fifa, during it's 64th congress held in Jun 2014 in Sao Paulo, scrapped football agents and replaced them with Intermediaries.

To register under Fufa, the Ugandan FA territory, one has to pick an application form from FUFA and apply with test of good character attached to it.

An application fees of $ 100 (approx 340,000) is paid to the Federation accounts, then a verification process follows before the applicant pays $ 2000 (Ugx 6.8M).

After successfully completing the whole process, one is issued with an Intermediary License that lasts for two years.
