Morocco officially express interest to host World Cup 2026

World football body, Fifa, has confirmed that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has expressed interest to host the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

The Fifa Congress that sat in Manama, Bahrain in May ratified the process to be followed for those countries interested in hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 2026 edition will be the first under the new expanded format to host 48 nations. Fifa has also confirmed that Canada, Mexico and the United States of America have expressed their intention to have a joint bid.

Under the rotational policy, the 2026 finals have been reserved for countries/FAs from Africa (CAF), North America (CONCAF), South America (CONMEBOL) and the Oceania (OFC).

Russia and Qatar were selected to host the 2018 and 2022 finals. The expressions of interest for the expanded 2026 edition were valid before Friday 11th August 2017.

-The interested Member Associations will now move on to officially register their bids and agree to the terms and conditions of the enhanced bidding process that will select the venue of the first FIFA World Cup to be played with 48 teams, Fifa wrote in a statement.

Next step Fifa will issue the bidding registration documents for the Member Associations to fill in followed by bidding documents for the applicants to commence preparations.

The applicants are expected to submit their official bids to Fifa latest on March 31st next year.

Fifa will then evaluate the bidders' potential and submit a report on their findings to the Congress for a final decision.
