Sunshine Stars turn back on Eguavoen
Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) club Sunshine Stars have refused to toll the line of immediate erstwhile coach Austin Eguavoen concerning refereeing.
Eguavoen had lamented terrible officiating in the NPFL after playing five games as coach of the Akure club. He lost four of the five games, two of which was on home soil.
While leaving the club on Friday, Eguavoen claimed that his ability was being frustrated by bad officiating.
But Sunshine Stars on Saturday released a press statement saying the former Super Eagles coach’s position on NPFL referees is his personal view and not that of the club.
-The attention of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) has been drawn to a report that the Agency blamed coach Austin Eguavoen's disengagement on bad officiating from referees in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
-ODSFA wishes to clarify that the claims attributed to the parental body of Sunshine Stars FC in the said report is not true. The claim in the report is not in anyway a reflection of ODSFA's thought about the Nigerian referees.
-The Agency, nor any member of its management staff has never and will never issue such a statement wrongly credited to the Secretary of the ODSFA Interim Management Committee, Elder Mike Adeyeye.
-Only coach Austin Eguavoen could have divulged the reasons for his disengagement, not the Agency.
-We hold the Nigerian Referees in high esteem and regard the Nigeria Referee Association as a noble body that must be accorded every bit of respect.
