Spanish giants Barcelona are reportedly set to land Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo.

Manchester boss Jose Mourinho has been in the market for defenders to strengthen his back-line in preparation for the forthcoming season, which will provide the English giants with an opportunity to bag both local and international honours. Semedo has been touted to be a possible candidate for the important position.

The 23-year-old shot to the limelight after having spectacular outings since joining Benfica’s senior side in 2015, which has garnered the attention of top teams, who feel that the Portugal international can solve their defensive woes. Semedo has made 45 appearances for the Primeira Liga champions in the recently concluded season, scoring two goals and assisting six.

Barca have had a hard time finding a suitable replacement after Dani Alves left the La Liga side for Juventus, and the La Liga powerhouse hope that a £43m bid will be enough to secure the defensive specialist’s move.
