United and Arsenal receive big boost
Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal are back in the race to sign Lyon marksman Alexandre Lacazette.
The Frenchman was set to sign with La Liga aces Atletico Madrid before the club’s transfer ban was recently upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, making a move to Diego Simeone’s side this summer improbable, as the restrictions are set to expire in January next year.
Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas, who had initially signed off on the 26-year-old’s transfer, reiterated the same by admitting that the continuance of the ban “changes everything”, adding that the development was both “bad news and good news, because it would have turned out to be a lucrative transaction business-wise.
The unfortunate turn of events however gave the Red Devils and the Gunners the green light to pursue the forward, especially Jose Mourinho’s side, who are desperately in need of a skilled finisher after the upholding of the ban meant that acquiring top target Antoine Griezmann became impossible.
