NPFL preview: FC IfeanyiUbah v Kano Pillars

27 May 2017, 12:59

FC IfeanyiUbah will on Sunday engage Kano Pillars in their first home game of the second stanza of the Nigeria Professional Football League while still basking in the euphoria of the emphatic victory recorded last Sunday against Shooting Stars to complete the double over the Ibadan based side this term.

It was the sort of result the Anambra Warriors needed to reassert their presence in the league having secured just two points on the road in the first stanza.

The Kano club are having a bit of an indifferent form with just a win in their last six games in the league coming on the last Match Day against Niger Tornadoes.

Sunday's encounter will surely be the meeting of two gladiators in Nigerian club football circus considering the fact that the host are Champion of Champions in the previous season whereas their visitors have won the league on four occasions in 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2014 as well as having some stints in the continent featuring in CAF Inter Club competitions on 5 occasions.

FC IfeanyiUbah will seek to sustain their impressive form of seven games unbeaten run in the league and will go one step further to eight by getting at least a point on home soil in Sunday's battle.

The NPFL Galacticos will also seek to maintain their absolute mercurial unbeaten home run counting over two years which has simply made the home ground a fortress.

FC IfeanyiUbah are currently 4th on the log with 31 points amassed in 20 matches played while their opponents are currently 13th on the NPFL log having collected 27 points in 20 matches played.

-First I am delighted with the way we started the second stanza by recording an emphatic win last weekend against one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria's football scene. Now we have started well and created the right momentum, we need to sustain this form by also starting well at home against a very solid and tough opposition in the mold of Kano Pillars. FC IfeanyiUbah coach Yaw Preko said.

-Record says they have won the league on four occasions and have also been on the continent so they are vastly experienced and can give any team in the league a run for their money. Now we have to prepare adequately for them by leaving no stone unturned and come Sunday go out on the pitch and so our job effectively by playing well, scoring good goals and securing all the points at stake.

We urge our fans to turn out en masse to support us.

Head to head:
