The club from the Spanish capital is reported to be in the market for a striker and after their pursuit of PSG's Edinson Cavani didn't bear fruit, Alex Lacazette is now on their radar.
According to Marca in Spain, Diego Simeone's side is prioritising Lacazette, who has started as a lone striker in each of Mikel Arteta's five matches in charge so far.
Marca believes that struggling midfielder Thomas Lemar could be involved as part of a swap deal after Diego Simeone publicly claimed that Lemar has fallen short of the demands placed on him by the club.
It wouldn't be the first time that Lemar is linked with a move to the Gunners. Back in 2017, Arsène Wenger admitted that Arsenal had made an unsuccessful bid of €100m for the Frenchman. In that same summer, Lacazette was strongly-linked with a move to Atlético from Lyon but the Spanish club's transfer ban saw Arsenal swoop in and get their man.
Atlético would eventually spend €60m to acquire Lemar from Monaco in the summer of 2018, but the World Cup winner has only contributed three goals and six assists in 64 games since arriving at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Lacazette has featured 107 times for Arsenal, scoring 42 goals and assisting 20 times.
Could a swap deal really be on the cards?
