Uruguayan striker Edison Cavani has completed his pre-contract agreement with Laliga giants Atletico Madrid.
Reports from Italian journalist Gianluca di Marzio this morning indicated that Cavani will join Atleti in the summer on a free after his contract with French moneybags Paris Saint Germain expires.
The 32-year-old has agreed on a two-year deal with Diego Simeone’s club and it is believed that the coach had wanted the player to join his side this January. This, however, won’t be the case due to Atleti’s existing wage bill as well as PSG’s reticence to let the player go in January.
Cavani will be able to sign this agreement from 1st February, according to the Italian transfer window expert.
Cavani who has previously featured for Napoli in the Serie A is expected to replace Thomas Lemar who is said to be on his way to England.
Lemar is said not to have impressed Simeone since crossing over to Atleti in 2018 with rumours strife that North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are both interested in his services.
