Vasalund reveal foreign clubs were after Harambee Stars defender

Swedish third-tier side Vasalund IF has revealed that a number of foreign clubs were after the services of Harambee Stars defender Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma.

Ouma signed a four-year deal with Swedish top-flight side AIK last week but according to his former club IF Vasalund, there were other unnamed sides who were interested in his services.

In a statement on the club’s portal, Vasalund noted: “There has been a lot of speculations for a while about Vasalunds’ left-back Erick Otieno. Several clubs have been involved in the search for Eric’s signature, both in Sweden and foreign clubs but it is now clear that AIK will be Eric's new home from 2020.”

Good Rating

The club further stated that they were pleased for the former Gor Mahia player and that the transfer of Ouma gives them a good rating in their aim of developing players.

"We are very pleased that the transition has happened and just that AIK was his choice. With Eric’s potential, we know he will take another step in his career. Vasalund continues to produce players and the transfer gives our organization a good rating in our aim of developing more players. We wish Erick all the best in his new club,” the club’s Sports Manager Chengis Rehman said.

Ouma will hope that he can play a part in AIK’s opener next season against Sodra in the Svenska Cupen (League Cup) on 23rd February 2019.
