Kenya’s Harambee Starlets begun their 2019 CECAFA Women Championship campaign with a 2-0 win over Ethiopia in a match played at the Chamazi Complex-Tanzania on Sunday 17 November.
After a goalless first half, Starlets were to take the lead through substitute Jentrix Shikangwa in the 79th minute with Cynthia Shilwatso doubling their lead three minutes later.
The win will be a relief for Starlets who had less time to prepare for the preparations as they headed to Tanzania straight for the competition after being ousted in the Olympic Qualifiers by Zambia over the weekend.
Next for David Ouma charges will be a test against Djibouti on Tuesday on the same venue as they hope to lift the title that has eluded them in the past years.
Earlier on Saturday, hosts Tanzania opened their campaign in an emphatic fashion by recording a 9-0 win over debutants South Sudan; another group A clash seeing Burundi overcoming Zanzibar with a 5-0 scoreline.
Djibouti faces Uganda in another group B later in the day.
