Barcelona Ladies striker Asisat Oshoala has been appointed the new captain of Nigeria's senior national women's team.
Oshoala will be replacing Desire Oparanozie, who led the Super Falcons to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in June to reach the knockout stage for the first time in two decades.
Acting coach of the Super Falcons, Christopher Danjuma, made the announcement as the camp in Abuja.
“We need you to be focused. You are in this squad because of your ability. The leadership of the Falcons has decided to change your leaders.
"Oshoala is now your captain. As for the assistant captain, that will be dealt with later.” Danjuma said in a video posted on the Falcons official Twitter page, which was also re-tweeted by the Nigeria Football Federation.
