Lingard kept away from England squad

Manchester United midfielder Jess Lingard has been kept away from the England squad on Friday with the player said to have picked an injury.

According to PA News, a Football Association spokesman said the United player had been kept away from the rest of the team as a precaution but will be considered for selection in their Saturday’s match at Wembley against Bulgaria.

A back problem has already ruled out Lingard’s United team-mate Aaron Wan-Bissaka who was in line to receive his first cap at senior level but Southgate has been impressed by a number of young players who can feature for the national team.

Keep Evolving

“We’ve got to keep evolving as a squad and as a team. We’ve had a two-year period of progress and constant improvement, I think.

“We can’t stand still and there are young players coming through that we might not see the best of in the next two years actually, but for the long term for England we need to start integrating them because I think this team can constantly improve and evolve,” Southgate said ahead of Bulgaria game.

Wan-Bissaka’s form saw him rewarded with a maiden senior call-up for September’s home Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo.
