The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) have finalized the squad to face South Africa for the AFCON U23 and Olympic qualifier this week.
The young Warriors will travel to Johannesburg for the first leg qualifier on Friday 6 September, with the South African Football Association (SAFA) promising safety in the wake of the xenophobic attacks that have swept the country.
“Young Warriors travel update. 14 local based players & officials leave for SA today in 3 batches. First one leaves at 1 pm & the last at 5.10 pm. 4 foreign based players are flying direct to the venue,” posted ZIFA via Twitter.
The federation also confirmed the final list of players who will be doing duty against the South Africans.
- Goalkeepers: Martin Mapisa(Velez CF), Nelson Chadya (Ngezi Platinum).
- Defenders: Emmanuel Jalai (Dynamos), Abubakar Moffat (Velez CF), Tawanda Chisi (Dynamos), Shadreck Nyahwa (Bulawayo Chiefs), Romario Matova(FK Igman), Douglas Nyaupembe.
- Midfielders: Juan Mutudza (Herentals), Tatenda Tavengwa (Harare City), Blessing Sarupinda(Caps United), Hagiazo Magaya (FC Platinum), Leeroy Mavunga (Yadah Stars), Anelka Chivandire (Triangle United), Clive Rupiya (Caps United).
- Strikers: Prince Dube (Highlanders), Obriel Chirinda (Chicken Inn), Wilfred Muvirimi (Harare City).
The return leg is scheduled for Zimbabwe on Sunday 9 September 2019. The best eight nations from the continental qualifiers will advance to the finals in Egypt during November - wherein the final four sides will qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan.
