๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Why SAFA appointed Molefi as Bafana coach

The South African Football Association (SAFA) have explained the appointment of Molefi Ntseki as the new Bafana Bafana coach.

The former U-17 coach and assistant to Stuart Baxter was surprisingly announced as the new national team coach on Saturday afternoon, beating the likes of Gavin Hunt, Benni McCarthy and Steve Komphela to the post.

SAFA’s acting Chief Executive Russell Paul has explained that Ntseki’s understanding of South African football was the main guide for their decision.

“We’ve said that part of the criteria was somebody who understands South African football and the path that we want to go,” Paul said to TimesLIVE.

Paul continued to highlight the U17s, U20s and U23s past qualifications to the World Cup and the Olympics, which Ntseki was a part of, should enable the new coach to shift to the senior team.

“We have had major qualification successes of our Under-17, U-20 and U23 teams and we believe one of the factors that counts in his favour is that he has an opportunity [to transfer such success to the senior team], and he knows how to harness that,” added Paul.

“He took the U-17s to the World Cup, he’s been integrally involved with Banyana Banyana in their preparations for the World Cup and Afcon and other things,” he concluded.

Ntseki will kick off his senior coaching career when Bafana visit Zambia this Saturday 7 September in Lusaka.
