Ghana international James Kotei who was recently signed by Premier Soccer League side Kaizer Chiefs did not make his official debut against Highlands Park on Sunday, August 4.
Chiefs started off the 2019/20 season on a high after securing a 3-2 victory against Highlands Park and three of the new signings were awarded their maiden starts, while Kotei was an unused substitute.
The former Simba FC midfielder was on the bench for the entirety of the game, and Amakhosi head coach Ernst Middendorp revealed the reasons for not awarding Kotei some minutes of the pitch.
“James Kotei we haven’t used at the moment because he needs a little bit more time. He got flattened in this time (pre-season), playing 10 games in 15 days," he said.
You can see it, he is not in a way where you can bring him in at the moment. All the players are needed, it is not a one-man show.”
If Middendorp's sentiments are anything to go by, it will be some time until Kotei makes his league debut for his new side.
