Real Madrid striker Borja Mayoral has joined Laliga rivals Levante on a season-long loan deal without a purchase option the club has confirmed.
A statement on Madrid’s website noted: “Real Madrid CF and Levante UD have agreed to transfer the Borja Mayoral player for next season, until June 30, 2020.”
This will be the second successive season that the 22-year-old will be loaned out after spending his last season at the Valencia-based side where he netted just three goals across 29 appearances.
Levante have been keen on a deal but it had appeared certain he would join Real Sociedad, but they were said to prefer a permanent deal but were not prepared to pay his €15m asking price.
“I do not even know that,” Borja told Cadena Ser last month when asked about where he would be playing his football next season.
“Right now, I am focused on the (Under-21) European Championships (with Spain) and we will see after that. I bet that I will leave Real Madrid. Real Sociedad is on top of the list.”
Mayoral has previously spent a season on loan at German club Wolfsburg but has scored a total of just eight league goals across the past three campaigns.
