Manchester United target Aaron Wan-Bissaka scored a bizarre own goal as England U21 fell 2-1 at the hands of France in the opening game of their European Under-21 Championship campaign on Tuesday.
Phil Foden had put England ahead in the 54th minute after Dean Henderson had earlier saved Moussa Dembele's penalty.
Houssem Aouar then missed a second penalty after Hamza Choudhury was sent off for a rash challenge in the box. Jonathan Ikone equalized late on before Wan-Bissaka put into his own net.
England now trails in Group C after Romania beat Croatia in the other opening game and Boothroyd's side face an uphill battle to progress.
Realistically, they need to win their next two games against Romania on Friday and then Croatia on Monday, as only the group winner automatically qualifies for the semi-finals, as well as the best-placed runner-up.
It's genuinely funny as soon as Wan Bissaka was linked with Man United he scores an own goal in his last game.— Lee (@LivelyLeeGrant) June 18, 2019
I think this club is truly cursed. pic.twitter.com/jlqVogJvan
