A quick look at Real Madrid's €303m expenditure so far this summer
After a disappointing 2018/2019 campaign, Spanish giants Real Madrid have made a considerable statement of intent by signing six new players before the transfer window for LaLiga clubs has even officially opened.
New signings Eden Hazard, Luka Jović, Eder Militão, Ferland Mendy, Rodrygo Goes & Takefusa Kubo can only be officially registered on 1 July 2019.
The 13-time European Champions, under Zinedine Zidane, will want to put things right this coming campaign and they've added three marquee signings to strengthen the spine of their team and bolstered their ranks further with three talented players for the future.
Marquee names ☄️
The long-anticipated and expected arrival of Eden Hazard from Chelsea has grabbed all of the headlines, understandably, with the 28-year-old widely regarded as one of the best players on the planet. The Belgian will bring some excitement to the fanbase and his trickery and dribbling skills should
21-year-old Serbian striker Luka Jović burst onto the European scene last season, showing off his clinical finishing ability which helped Eintracht Frankfurt to the Europa League semifinals. He'll provide competition to experienced forward Karim Benzema. Jovic got 27 goals and six assists last season and that means Real Madrid is buying a seriously good striker.
Éder Militão has earned rave reviews during his time at FC Porto, with the Brazilian adept at playing in the centre of defence or on the right-hand side although his preference is to operate centrally. He's a tough tackler who's extremely comfortable with the ball at his feet and bringing it out of defence. At 21, he looks like a genuinely brilliant prospect. for club and country. His technical gifts and aerial prowess might mean that he's the long-term successor to Los Blancos legend Sergio Ramos.
Ones for the future ✨
Not many football fans would have heard of Ferland Mendy before this transfer window, but that shows that Real Madrid's scouting efforts are still widespread and effective. The French left-back will challenge the ageing Marcelo for a first-team role. Mendy got his first international call-up in November 2018 and if all goes to plan in Madrid, he's likely to increase his cap tally.
Brazilian winger Rodrygo might be dubbed as the "next Neymar" although he has downplayed those comparisons, saying "I don't want to be the Neymar of Real Madrid, I want to be the Rodrygo of Real Madrid". Once upon a time, Rodrygo had Eden Hazard as the wallpaper on his phone, now he'll be his teammate.
Takefusa Kubo, a 19-year-old attacking midfielder from FC Tokyo, is another new addition but he's been assigned to Castilla, Real Madrid's Castilla reserve team. He's been dubbed as the "Japanese Lionel Messi."
