Harambee Stars Player Profile: Ayub Timbe
With Harambee Stars, head coach Sebastien Migne naming his squad for the upcoming 2019 African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt, Futaa looks at the profiles of the players who will represent Kenya in the continental showpiece.
Ayub Timbe Masika
DOB: September 10, 1992
Current Club: Beijing Renhe, China
Previous Clubs: HLJ Lava Spring (China), Lierse SK (Belgium), KRC Genk (Belgium), G Beerschot (Belgium)
A barnstorming performance against DR Congo in their last friendly clash ahead of the AFCON competition confirmed what everyone in Kenya already knew: Timbe is a superstar in the making. He spent most of his young career in Belgium where he was with the KRC Genk youth team; a move he credits for his meteoric rise.
He only featured in one game in the qualifiers (the scrapped game against Sierra Leone) and was later suspended for three games. Injuries meant his appearance under head coach Migne was to be pushed further but never disappointed when he finally made his come back against Madagascar in a friendly clash.
He is one player Stars will need to be on top of his game if they are to perform in the showpiece. Comfortable in both wings, Timbe comes into the showpiece on a back of scoring seven goals for his club last season in 14 appearances.
Early this year, he was linked with a move to English Championship side Reading FC and will be looking to prove to the rest of the continent why he is one of the most coveted players in the country.
