After being dropped for the UEFA Nations League third-place play-off against Switzerland, England manager Gareth Southgate has revealed that John Stones will feature after playing a number of games for Manchester City.
Stones made a horrendous error in the semi-finals against the Netherlands which resulted in a goal in extra-time as England lost the game 3-1. It came after Stones lost his place in City's starting line-up to Vincent Kompany, with the 25-year-old starting just two of City's final seven Premier League games of last season.
Southgate believes that Stones error was down to lack of sharpness, "I think there's a couple of factors in [John Stones missing out]. One is that he hasn't played a lot of football so physically I think there were mistakes made because of fatigue and I think his next game in an England shirt needs to be when he's had a few games with his club and he's feeling in a good place and more confident.
"I think if we put him in today every action he took would be under the spotlight so he understands where we are with it and that we're strong in supporting him."
