Simba withdraws from Kagame Cup

Tanzanian giants Simba Sports Club have confirmed their withdrawal from the Cecafa Kagame Cup, which is scheduled to kick off on July 7.

The Tanzanian Premier League champions have cited lack of enough time to prepare for the defense of their league title, with some of their key players away on national duty in Egypt.

In a statement by the club, they intend to camp abroad for at least six weeks before the start of their league, and need to be ready for the Africa Club Champions League.

"Simba Sc would like to inform stakeholders as well as our fans that the club will not be participating in the upcoming Cecafa Kagame Cup," the club said in the statement.

"The main reason why we will not be taking part in the tournament is the short period of time we will have for pre-season ahead of the start of the next season," further added the statement.

The tournament brings together league winners from the East Africa countries, which include  Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan, Somalia, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania and Zanzibar.

The winner of the competition walks away with U$D 30,000. Tanzanian side Azam are the defending champions.
