Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic admitted that his side played well but Portugal were "street smart" with Cristiano Ronaldo making the difference.
Ronaldo single-handedly sent Portugal to the UEFA Nations League final after scoring a hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Switerzland. This was his 157th appearance for Seleção and the 86th, 87th and 88th goals of a 16-year international career that, on this evidence, is far from being on the wane. The three goals also marked Ronaldo's 53rd hat-trick of his career.
Speaking in a press conference after the match, Petkovic admitted that they were undone by Ronaldo's brilliance, "Congratulations to Portugal. They had street smarts, they had the cherry on top of the cake and that made the difference. Four shots, three goals.
"On the one hand, we were up against a very strong opponent, but over 90 minutes we showed we're a strong team and that we can make life for a top side difficult, too. We were trying to keep the score; we had the chance to get a second but didn't take it. We got outnumbered at the back and conceded. Their top player made the difference."
