Where it started 🙇🏽♂️
Born in France to Senegalese parents, Koulibaly began his professional career at Metz in 2010 before joining Genk, the club that nurtured other world class talents like Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois in 2012.
A Lion of Teranga 🇸🇳
Having represented the French U20s on 11 occasions, Koulibaly, just a few days before he made his senior international debut, switched federations and decided to leave France for the Senegal national football team.
"I don't have any regrets because I want to write the story of the future of Senegal football and I hope I'll be able to do that," the centre-back told BBC Sport after France won the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Currently with 32 international appearances and one goal, the 27-year-old will be continuing his mission with Senegal in the upcoming AFCON 2019 tournament.
Here we are talking about an extremely fast central defender, meaning he is able to get back and cover even if the opposition play the ball over the top or in behind the defensive line.
But how about this for technical abillty?
Kalidou Koulibaly is not only one of the best defenders in the world, he's also a skillful striker 💪😱 pic.twitter.com/BeGUjuWDxd— Oh My Goal (@OhMyGoalUS) April 3, 2019
Comfortable on the ball, he is able to drive forward into midfield, beat opposition men and provoke pressure. Alternatively, he is capable of spraying clean passes through the opposition’s defensive block, and he also understands how to combine efficiently with team-mates to work an opening.
We know all about a goal of the season. But what about a 'clearance of the season?'

Weak areas 🔎
With his natural instincts to join the hunt, he often leaves gaps that exposes his team’s defence. Also, positionally, he is sometimes caught all over the place - but these were mostly evident before early last season and ahead of becoming a near complete, world class defender this season.
Social Media 📲
As confirmed last week and to silent any doubters on whether Koulibaly is world class, the Senegalese was named the Serie A Defender of the Season.
