Sell Ozil or accept who he is, says Arsenal legend

Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu has told his former club to "accept the type of player Mesut Ozil is or simply let him go.

Ozil has been heavily criticized for his performance especially on big stages. Arsenal boss Unai Emery asked the Germany international to up his game and show commitment when the north London club travels to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on Saturday. However, Kanu believes the manager should focus on Ozil's attacking qualities as any attempt to try and persuade him to alter his game will be unsuccessful.

"Every player is different. What you need is his strengths, not his weaknesses. He can work on his weaknesses but you can't change him. Either you accept him or you let him go. You don't want Maradona or Messi to go back and defend, you want them to go and do what they know how to do," said Kanu.

"If it's a style of play, the coach has to accommodate that and make room for Mesut to play in that manner. I don't know why people are still complaining a lot about him," he added.

Ozil came under fire for failing to influence the game against Manchester City as Emery's reign started with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the reigning champions.
