Wanyama in as Saints cruise to Europa play-offs

Southampton eased their way into the Europa League play-offs seeing off  Vittese Arnhem 2-0 in the competition's third round qualifier second leg match staged at  the Arnhem Stadium on Thursday 6 August.

Grazziano Pelle opened up the game with a fourth  minute goal from inside the box to hand Southampton an away lead in a match that Victor Wanyama clocked 90.

The home side came close from pair of corners  but couldn't find a breakthrough past Saints' defence and Martin Stekelenburg in goal.

Rather, it was the first leg hero, Sadio Mane who came back to haunt the Dutch side, robbing defender of possession to put away his second against the side  for the 5-0 aggregate win.

Koeman's injury

The victory saw Southampton advance into play-off round of Europa League but the joy was marred by news of Manager Ronald Koeman’ injury who aggravated his achilles on the night before the match and could miss the team's league opener against Newcastle this weekend.

His brother and assistant coach Irwin Koeman is likely to  lead the team in the clash.

Southampton will now face Danish champions, FC Midtjylland in the play-off round.
