2019 has come and gone and with players celebrating milestones and records set in the year, it was another turbulent season for Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama who was derailed by injuries.
Many felt that after the departure of Mauricio Pochettinho late in the year, his replacement Jose Mourinho would give the Stars captain some game time going by his energy in some of the national team games but that hasn’t happened.
This season alone, Wanyama has only featured in four games for Spurs in all competitions; the games coming against Leicester (Premier League), Colchester (League Cup), Southampton (Premier League) and Bayern Munich (Champions League).
Is last appearance for the club came in their UEFA Champions League dead rubber against Bayern Munich in December where he came on as a substitute.
The outing is a huge contrast to his last season statistics where he featured in 28 games in all competitions for Spurs scoring two goals in the process.
For the national team, he began the year with a tie against DR Congo which was a friendly clash before representing Kenya in the African Cup of Nations where he featured against Algeria, Tanzania, and Senegal as they exited the group stage. A friendly tie against Mozambique was to ensue after the AFCON camping before games against Egypt and Togo in the 2021 AFCON Qualifiers.
