Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil has tipped Martin Ødegaard to succeed at Real Madrid.
After making his debut for Norway’s national team at 15 and securing his Real Madrid move at 16, Ødegaard has been, up until last year, unable to deliver on those promises.
Ødegaard enjoyed an eyebrow-raising campaign at Vitesse (11 goals, 12 assists) and is now tearing it up at Real Sociedad, contributing four goals and five assists to LaLiga’s fifth-placed side.
In an interview with Radio Marca, Alguacil said: “When I was told that there was the possibility of signing him, I had no doubts when I watched some of his games.
“After meeting him, I had no doubts that he had to come, I knew that we could get the big potential he has out of him.
“He was ready to come here because to play like he’s playing, he needs a team that plays like we do. The best bit about him is his willingness to grow and work for it.
“We know the kind of player he is but he’s also well surrounded by quality players. He’s a very mature kid who knows the steps he has to take to be successful. He’s capable of succeeding in La Liga and that means he’s capable of succeeding in Real Madrid as well.”
Ødegaard joined Sociedad on a two-year loan this past summer after penning an extension to stay at Madrid until 2023.
