Harambee Stars Captain Victor Wanyama has labelled the Head of State Commendation (HSC) by Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta as an honour.
Wanyama in a gazette notice dated December 20, 2019, joined other sportsmen in Mary Moraa (Athletics), Timothy Cheruiyot (Athletics), Bob John Oyugi (football coach), Rosemary Achieng Owino (tennis coach) and Timothy Nabea Muriithi among the other recipients of the state award.
In a tweet, Wanyama said: “It is an honour to have received The Head of State Commendation from His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta. May this recognition inspire future generations of Sportsmen and women of our great nation, KENYA.”
Despite having a reduced role with Tottenham Hotspur, Wanyama led Stars to the 2019 African Cup of Nations where they were eliminated in the group stage.
He has been part of the team too that started the 2021 African Cup of Nation in a positive note after holding Egypt away from home before being held by Togo in the second game.
Many thought he would play a huge role when Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was shown the door but new boss Jose Mourinho hasn’t made good use of the midfielder who is being linked with a move to Germany in January.
