Sudan 1-2 Kenya: Harambee Stars come from behind to book semi final spot

Kenya national team Harambee Stars advanced to the semi-finals of CECAFA Senior Championship following a 2-1 win over Sudan in a match staged at the KCCA Grounds in Kampala Uganda on Tuesday.

Sudan took the lead after half an hour through Mohamed Abbas Namir but Kenya came from a goal down thanks to Hassan Abdalla's leveler and Oscar Wamalwa's winner. This becomes the second win for Stars in the tournament which sees them advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Both teams approached the match cautiously and Sudan had the first chance of the game as Montasir Osman shot in the seventh minute went wide. Kenya responded two minutes later, Moses Mudavadi had the ball in the edge of the box but his attempted shot flew over the bar.

After thirty minutes of play, Sudan took the lead with Mohamed Abbas Namir beating Kenya's goalkeeper Samuel Odhiambo. Kenya, who were without their head coach Francis Kimanzi who was serving a two-match ban survived another scare four minutes later. Moaiad Abdeen Maki was left one on one with the goalkeeper but Odhiambo denied Sudan from extending their lead.

In the 54th minute, Kenya made a double substitution with Tusker's Timothy Otieno and Bandari's Hassan Abdalla coming in for Moses Mudavadi and Whyvonne Isuza.

Hassan, the man who scored the decisive goal for Stars on Sunday against Tanzania leveled the scores in the 64th with a beautiful header. Stars were awarded a free kick on the right edge of the box, Kenneth Muguna stepped up to take it. He delivered it in the danger area and Abdalla was in the right place, rose highest and headed it past Sudan keeper.

Ten minutes later, Oscar Wamalwa thought he had given Kenya the second but his goal was canceled for offside. Four minutes later, Wamalwa netted yet again another goal but it stood and Kenya had their lead.

Kimanzi's men, who have already qualified for the semi's of the ongoing tournament will be up against Zanzibar on Saturday 14th in their final match of Group B.

Stars will then face the runners up of Group A.
