West Ham 2-0 Manchester United: Hammers crush Ole Gunnar's boys

Manchester United's woes in the English Premier League continued on Sunday evening after they were beaten 2-0 away to West Ham.

Well-taken goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Aaron Cresswell in each half condemned the Red Devils to their second loss of the current campaign in a rather drab match.

The game was devoid of any real action through the entire first-half, with Nemanja Matic's long-range shot that was easily saved by Lukasz Fabianski the only decent attempt in the first 15 minutes.

West Ham should, however, have taken the lead on the 36th minute, but Mark Noble's shot was expertly saved by an outstretched David De Gea.

With the match seemingly going for the break still tied at 0-0, Andriy Yarmolenko collected a pass inside the box, and without hesitation fired an unstoppable shot into the bottom left corner to give the hosts the lead with a minute to the halftime whistle.

United could have pulled level on the 49th minute, but Juan Manuel Mata skewed his shot wide having found himself in a good position inside the box. His shot flew wide of the left post.

Scott McTominay found himself some space inside the box on the 57th minute, collecting a rebound and sending an effort in on goal. Lukasz Fabianski pulled off a fantastic reflex save to stop the ball going into the bottom right corner.

West Ham almost doubled their lead on the 62nd minute, after Felipe Anderson received a precise pass and sent a promising strike towards the right post after he was given time inside the box.

Aaron Cresswell's well-taken free-kick on the 77th minute went inches over the crossbar, as the hosts went all out for the kill.

Cresswell could not be denied the second effort, as his well-struck free-kick from the edge of the box with six minutes to go found the top right corner.

There was no real danger from United as the hosts settled for the important win, which saw them move to fourth on the table.

United, on the other hand, remain rooted in the seventh spot, having won once in the last five matches.
