Atletico Madrid came from two goals down to force a 2-2 draw with Juventus on Wednesday night in the first leg match of Champions League Group D clash.
Blaise Matuidi and Juan Cuadrado had given Juventus a deserved lead but goals from Stefan Savić and Hector Herrera ensured the spoils were shared.
After the first half of goalless draw, Juventus opened the scoring through Cuadrado. Bonnuci won the ball inside his own box and clipped up the line for Higuain, who showed great composure to wait for support. He looked for Cuadrado who cut a stunning effort into the top corner.
Juve got another brilliant goal with Ronaldo sliding Alex Sandro down the wing and the full-back's cross was a beauty. Matuidi had one task, to head home and yes he did, doubling the visitors lead.
In the 70th minute, Atletico pulled one back and it came from a set-piece. The ball came from one center-back to another, Giminez delivered the ball across goal and Savic turned it in from close range.
And just in the stoppage time, Hector Herrera forced a draw for the home side. Atletico had been a threat from set-pieces all game and they finally reaped the rewards. Both Herrera and Gimenez attacked the ball, but it's Herrera that got the final touch and it kissed the back of the net.
Round two will see Atletico Madrid away to Lokomotive Moscow while Juventus will play hosts to Bayer Leverkusen.
