Marc-Andre Ter Stegen produced a man of the match performance as he kept out Marco Reus' penalty in the second half to earn Barcelona a point following a barren draw against Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund started the game the much brighter side but failed to create any meaningful chances despite pegging back Barcelona in the opening minutes. The first half had chances few and far between with Jordi Alba limping out in the 40th minute being one of the talking points of the first half as he was replaced by Sergi Roberto.
The Yellow and Black were handed a penalty in the 55th minute when Nelson Semedo brought down Jadon Sancho. Marco Reus stepped up to take the penalty but was denied by Ter Stegen who finally got the ball into his hands at the second time of asking to prevent Reus from converting the rebound.
Lionel Messi made his first appearance of the season at the stroke of the half-hour mark when he was subbed on for Ansu Fati who has been linked to him after scoring and assisting in the last game against Valencia despite being only 16 years of age. Raktic was also introduced in place of Busquets.
Ter Stegen save
It was a show of Ter Stegen vs Reus as the German shot-stopper parried a shot from Reus as the Barcelona defense finally managed to clear the ball away out a goalmouth melee in the 78th minute.
Barcelona take on Granada on Saturday 21st September while Dortmund have a tricky away tie to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday 22nd September.
