Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has urged all of his teammates to step up as leaders ahead of next season.
Xhaka is one of the leading candidates to replace the current captain Laurent Koscielny who is keen to leave the club this summer after he refused to travel to United States tour for the pre-season. The Swiss ace has experience in leading teams after captaining his country and stepping in as the skipper of the north London side. Speaking in a press conference in Los Angelas, the midfielder revealed he would be happy to take on the responsibility.
"It’s not my first time. If the club and the coach give me the armband I will be happy of course. We all have to work together on the pitch and take leadership from all the players,” he said.
“This is not something you can change in one day. In my opinion, we’re on a good way to create something special in the team.”
Koscielny’s situation could lead to the club appointing a new skipper ahead of the new season with the Frenchman keen to return to France as he is linked with Bourdeaux and Marseille.
