South Nyanza Sugar Football Club (Sony Sugar FC) is set to change its name as the team revamps in readiness for the new 2019/20 season.
The team has been struggling financially in recent years and despite managing a fifth-place finish last season, they could not keep their best players at the club.
According to sources, the team will be renamed to Sony FC with the Sugar name being dropped this after landing a new sponsor believed to be Media Company.
The new sponsors will have less time to put things in place as the team does not have a recognized head coach as they continue their preparations ahead of the new season.
The man who led them last season Patrick Odhiambo has since moved to Gor Mahia as an assistant coach with a chunk of players having already secured moves to other clubs.
Among the notable names to have shifted base are Derrick Otanga and Kevin Omondi who both moved to Wazito FC.
In the absence of Odhiambo, the team’s preseason started with Sylvester Wanyama at the helm; the older brother to Victor Wanyama having served as an assistant coach under Odhiambo and led the team’s junior side.
