Newcastle bound Steve Bruce confronted by angry Sheffield Wednesday supporter
Steve Bruce who is said to be a leading contender in the vacant managerial role at Newcastle was confronted by an irate Sheffield Wednesday fan in their preseason camp.
58-year-old Bruce, wants to return to the Premier League with his hometown club but took charge of Wednesday for their pre-season friendly at Lincoln yesterday when an Owls supporter was restrained by stewards as he approached the away dug-out.
Newcastle has offered £1million for Bruce who took over at Hillsborough earlier this year. Wednesday want £5million and Bruce admitted is waiting to see if a deal can be struck before he can succeed Rafa Benitez at St James’ Park.
“It is in the hands of the clubs. For me, there is nothing to talk about until the two clubs reach some sort of compromise.
“I have had a conversation (with Newcastle), yes. It has happened so quickly that I have to take stock of the whole situation. As I’ve said, it is in the hands of both clubs and we will see what develops over the next 24, 48 hours.
“It’s football, it has come from nowhere really over the last two or three days. We will see what the weekend brings.”
Bruce who managed Hull City will be at his 11th managerial job should he get the Newcastle job.
