Harambee Stars Player Profile: Dennis Odhiambo

With Harambee Stars, head coach Sebastien Migne naming his squad for the upcoming 2019 African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt, Futaa looks at the profiles of the players who will represent Kenya in the continental showpiece.

Dennis Omino Odhiambo

DOB: March 18, 1985

Current Club: Sofapaka FC, Kenya

Previous Clubs: University of Pretoria (South Africa), Thika United (Kenya)

Odhiambo was one of the driving forces of Stars qualification process and enters AFCON as one of the midfield mainstays. He is a multifunctional player known for his ferocious work rate wherever he operates – be it on the left back or as a holding midfielder.

Ruled Out

When captain Wanyama had been ruled out in Stars qualifying game against Ghana, Odhiambo stepped up and gave a performance that has since made him one of the players who are assured of their places in the team.

He has predominantly played in the Kenyan Premier League apart from his short stints in South Africa in 2008 and 2011 where he featured for Pretoria University. Even though he didn’t have the best starts with Sofapaka FC at the start of the season where he sometimes found himself on the bench, he still gave a good outing every time he was called upon by head coach Joh Baraza.
