Chelsea sets new record after Europa League win

Chelsea have become the first team to win the Europa League title in the 21st century without losing a single match.

The Blues beat rivals Arsenal 4-1 in the finals in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Wednesday night and lifted the title in an eerie night.

The Stamford Bridge outfit navigated through a relatively easy group, before meeting formidable opponents in the latter stages of the campaign.

The first match of the campaign saw Willian strike the lone goal that downed PAOK Salonica in Greece, before another 1-0 win over Mol Vidi in the second leg.

The Blues saw off BATE Borisov 3-1 at home in the third match of the group stage, before booking a place in the round of 32 after another 1-0 win over BATE away in Hungary.

In the round of 32,  Goals from Barkley and Giroud put Chelsea in the control seat against Malmo during the first leg, but a late reply from Anders Christiansen gave the Swedish side hope ahead of the second leg.

Chelsea comprehensively beat Malmo in the return leg at the Bridge, with three second-half goals doing the damage.

Up next, Chelsea faced a tricky opponent in Dynamo Kyiv, but surprisingly won 5-0 away in the first leg, before a 3-0 second leg win at home.

Slavia Prague came calling in the quarterfinals, but lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea, before thoroughly scaring the home team in the return leg, but Chelsea held on for a 5-3 aggregate win.

The London-based side came up against the toughest opponent in the campaign up to that stage, facing a Frankfurt Eintracht side that caused them problems home and away.

The match had to be decided by penalties, as the two teams could not be separated, tied at 2-2 after 180 minutes plus extra time.

They eventually qualified for the finals, where they saw off Arsenal 4-1 to lift the title.
