Ronaldo set to start for Juventus in Amsterdam tonight against a fearless Ajax side

Cristiano Ronaldo will start Juventus' Champions League quarter-final with Ajax after recovering from injury but we don't expect it to go all his own way against the side that eliminated his old club Real Madrid.

Match preview ✅

Ajax's memorable comeback in Madrid after losing 2-1 to Real in Amsterdam remains one of the highlights of the Champions League so far this season. Barcelona-bound Frenkie De Jong and teenage captain Matthijs de Ligt came of age with the more experienced Dusan Tadic showing the world just what he's capable of at the highest level.

Juventus has far the greater European pedigree of late but they've shown weaknesses on the road this season, losing three times outside of Italy in Champions League action. They were thoroughly outplayed at Atletico Madrid in the round of16 first leg before a remarkable turnaround to qualify courtesy of another hat-trick from the incomparable Ronaldo.

With both sides failing to keep clean sheets against top-tier opposition of late, we expect this first-leg to be uncharacteristically open and action-packed.

Team news 🌟

Ajax has no fresh injury concerns before the first leg in Amsterdam. Right-back Noussair Mazraoui is suspended. Most of the other stars of their refreshing campaign, including six-goal top scorer Dusan Tadic, are available to start.

34-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo has been nursing a thigh strain and has not played for Juve since he scored a hat-trick against Atletico Madrid in the last round on 12 March but returns here. Key defender Giorgio Chiellini, also 34, misses out with a calf strain, while Emre Can will also miss out with an ankle injury.

Watch out for Moise Kean. Experienced strikers Mario Mandzukic should get the nod ahead of the Italian teenager, but we expect the talented forward to feature and show that not only Ajax possesses stars of the future.
