Kaizer Chiefs, Simba in advance talks over juicy Okwi move

Premier Soccer League giants, Kaizer Chiefs, are nearing a January deal for Uganda Cranes striker Emmanuel Okwi.

Sources in Tanzania have confirmed that Simba Sports Club officials travelled to Soweto a fortnight ago to discuss a possible transfer for their in-form striker.

The club had turned down an earlier offer of US$ 35,000 (approx. UGX 130 Million) but it is rumoured that the Soweto money bags upped their stake to US$ 100,000 (APprox UGX 389 M) which the Msimbazi side failed to reject.

Recently, Okwi told Dar Es Salaam Swahili sports paper, Championi, that he heard about the rumors but the Simba hierarchy has not yet approached him.

The striker, who apparently celebrated his 26th birthday on Christmas day, had promised to speak about the deal after their CAF Champions League first round fixture with Nkana but is yet to speak.

Career

The striker joined Okwi first joined in Simba in 2010 from SC Villa at a fee estimated to be around US$ 40,000. The club later sold him to Etoile Du Sahel (Tunisia) in 2013 but the deal lasted for a few months before parting ways in controversial circumstances.

The Tunisians had failed to clear the pending transfer and signing-on fees to Simba and Okwi.

FUFA cleared him to play for SC Villa on a temporary licence before crossing to Young Africans in 2013-14. He later returned to SImba for the 2014-15 season before flying to Danish side SønderjyskE Fodbold in July 2015.

His stay there was meant to be for five years until 2020 but was cut short in mid-2017 because of performance.

The striker returned to SC Villa before crossing back to Simba where he scored 20 goals last season as they won the Tanzania Premier League and qualified for the CAF Champions League group stage.
