PSL side Ajax Cape Town have parted ways with Kenyan winger Ali Abondo mid-way in to the 2016/17 season.
Abondo joined the Urban Warriors in April last season after a league winning run with Gor Mahia but only made three appearances towards the final of the 2015/16 campaign. An injury at the start of the current season saw the player largely sidelined and was still in wait for his maiden appearance for the season.
The club has since announced of releasing the former Gor Mahia winger alongside Joachim Lupeta of DRC Congo.
-Abondo has been extremely unfortunate with injury and now has strong
competition for his play-making position in the middle of the park,
especially after the signing of Zambian international Roderick Kabwe
which will see him down the pecking order if he stayed, Ajax Cape Town CEO Ari Efstathiou told kick off
-Coach Stanley Menzo also believes it is in Abondo’s best interest that the club allows him to leave, he added.
Abondo's axing leaves Brian Mandela, Joseph Okumu and Cliffton Miheso as the only three Kenyan remaining in the PSL with Ajax now remaining with two spots to be filled with foreighn based players.
