Were's Zesco United partner John Chingandu has set his end of season target and revealed that his brace against Enugu Rangers of Nigeria was not as easy as would have appeared.
Striker Chingandu is hoping for a fruitful year after inspiring Zesco United to the group stage of the Confederation Cup 2017. Chingandu scored a brace in Zesco’s 3-0 win over Enugu Rangers of Nigeria last Saturday as the Ndola-based club advanced 5-2 on aggregate.
-It was not an easy game. Enugu Rangers is a very big team, but we managed to win. This game has now passed and we must now focus on the mini-league and must work in the same spirit”.
The 23-year old added that Zesco is also ready for any team at the group stage of the Total Confederation Cup ahead of the draws that will be held on Wednesday, 26 April 2017 at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
-If we believe one another we can win the (CAF Confederation Cup) title, the striker said.
Meanwhile, the brace was Chingandu’s second in a space of a fortnight after leading Zesco to victory in the Zambian 2017 season curtain raiser,
Charity Shield, when they beat Nkana 2-0 two weeks ago.
Catch up games
With four goals in six games, the forward is hoping to take this form into the two-week old Zambian league season as Zesco begin to play catch-up this week after taking care of their continental obligations.
Last season, Chingandu scored three goals in the CAF Champions League, when Zesco reached the semifinals in that competition, and as many goals in the Zambian league.
-It is a big challenge for me but my target in the league now is to try and score about 20 goals but there is a lot of competition especially against last year's top scorer Walter Bwalya of Nkana, Chingandu added.
